ThunderBites Calm + Probiotic is a daily soft chew for dogs that pairs common calming actives with a probiotic blend for gut health. It's a supplement, not a medication — so it sits alongside training and routine rather than replacing them. Here's the plain version of what's inside and who it suits.
What's actually in it
The calming side uses ashwagandha, L-theanine, L-tryptophan, melatonin and thiamine (vitamin B1), plus ginger and chamomile. Of these, L-theanine, melatonin and L-tryptophan are the ingredients with the most published research in dogs for situational stress. Alongside the calming actives is a probiotic blend of 3 billion CFU per chew (6 billion per 2 chews) — Bacillus subtilis, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Enterococcus faecium and Lactobacillus — aimed at digestive support. It's intended for dogs 12 weeks and older.
Per chew, Calm + Probiotic lists melatonin 1.5 mg, L-theanine 30 mg, ashwagandha 150 mg, L-tryptophan 15 mg and chamomile 10 mg. That is very different from the original ThunderBites Calming Chews (formerly ThunderWunders), which have 10 mcg (0.01 mg) melatonin per chew and no L-theanine, and from ThunderBites Hemp Calming Chews, which add hemp seed oil and powder (hemp seed, not CBD). 1.5 mg of melatonin is a meaningful dose, so ask your vet first, especially for small dogs, puppies, pregnant dogs and dogs on medication.

What it can and can't do
Calming chews can take the edge off mild, situational anxiety, and daily-use formulas may need four to six weeks before you can fairly judge whether they help. What they won't do is override genetics, undo deeply learned fears, or resolve severe or trauma-related anxiety on their own — those cases need a vet, and sometimes prescription medication and a behaviour plan. Supplements also aren't held to the same testing standards as medicines, so results vary from dog to dog. If your dog's anxiety is intense or getting worse, talk to your vet rather than reaching for a stronger dose.
Dosing by weight
ThunderBites Calm + Probiotic is dosed by your dog's body weight, per the label (a 90-count jar lasts 22 to 90 days at 1 to 4 chews a day). The original and Hemp ThunderBites chews use a different chart: up to 26 lb 1 chew, 27–50 lb 2, 51–99 lb 4, 100 lb and over 6, given 30 minutes before the stressful situation.
