What's actually in each chew
ThunderBites Calm + Probiotic builds its calming side on ashwagandha (150 mg per chew), L-theanine (30 mg), L-tryptophan (15 mg), melatonin (1.5 mg) and thiamine (B1), with ginger and chamomile rounding it out, then adds a probiotic blend (3 billion CFU per chew; 6 billion per 2 chews) for gut support. L-theanine and L-tryptophan are the amino acids most associated with a settled, less-reactive mood; melatonin leans toward rest; ashwagandha is included as an adaptogen for stress. Because it's a daily chew that also targets digestion, it fits dogs who need steady support rather than a one-off dose.

NaturVet Quiet Moments (the standard Calming Aid soft chew) uses, per chew, chamomile 75 mg, thiamine mononitrate 50 mg, passion flower 50 mg, ginger 50 mg, L-tryptophan 15 mg and melatonin 60 mcg. That is close to the original ThunderBites Calming Chew (formerly ThunderWunders, 10 mcg melatonin per chew, same weight chart and 30-minute timing), not to the Calm + Probiotic chew compared here. So it shares the melatonin and L-tryptophan base with ThunderBites, and it leans on chamomile and passion flower as its herbal calming pieces plus ginger for stress-related stomach upset. It does not contain ashwagandha, L-theanine or probiotics. It's built to be given shortly before a known stressor rather than every day.

A quick correction worth flagging: the two products are often described as if one has "faster" ingredients than the other. They don't — L-tryptophan is the same 15 mg per chew in both. Melatonin is not equal, though: ThunderBites Calm + Probiotic has 1.5 mg per chew, about 25 times NaturVet's 60 mcg, which is a meaningful dose to clear with your vet for small dogs, puppies, pregnant dogs or dogs on medication. The other practical difference is the label instructions. NaturVet is dosed before an event; ThunderBites is dosed daily.
Which fits fireworks and storms
Fireworks and thunderstorms are usually predictable within a window — you know the Fourth of July is coming, and storms often show on the radar hours out.
